    Catalyst: July Sales Release

Retail pharmacy chain Rite Aid (RAD) is getting some attention this afternoon, after the firm released its July sales report to Wall Street. Same-store-sales increased 1.3% in the last month, a strong boost for a firm that's already seen its fair share of fundamental strength in 2013. Today's 5% increase in shares could just be the first step.

That's because RAD is currently forming a bullish ascending triangle pattern. The setup is formed by horizontal resistance at $3.20 and uptrending support to the downside of shares. I'd recommend becoming a buyer if RAD is able to print above $3.20 -- then it makes sense to keep a protective stop at the 50-day moving average.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By abirk]

There lies an intense competition between YUM and McDonald (MCD). Health consciousness amongst the people has given a serious threat to this Oak Brook based company, as McDonald is heavily exposed to the US market. Other threats include poor product positioning. To compete with KFC and Buffalo Wild Wings (BWLD), McDonald introduced chicken wings (Mighty Wings). At the same restaurant that sells double cheeseburgers for a dollar, premium chicken wings don't work. The company purchased approximately 50 million pounds of chicken wings and is stuck with 10 million pounds of unsold stock.

Small cap stocks Derma Sciences Inc (NASDAQ: DSCI), Oculus Innovative Sciences, Inc (NASDAQ: OCLS)and Arch Therapeutics Inc (OTCBB: ARTH) specialize or have a focus on wound carea medical problem that has plagued mankind since the dawn of time. After all and think back to our Civil War when disease along with infections resulting from improper wound care probably killed more soldiers than actual battles. Even today, infection after surgery or after receiving a wound or injury of any kind is still a constant threat. And then there is the scaring that can result from any sort of invasive surgery or injury. With those thoughts in mind, here are three small cap wound care stocks trying address these problems:
