A 24% jump in gallons delivered helped reverse sluggishness in earlier quarters, and even though gains in dollar-value revenue were limited, adjusted sales soared 43% once you take out one-time items from the previous year. The expiration of crucial tax credits had a big impact on Clean Energy Fuels' income statement, reversing a year-ago profit, and raising questions about whether the company can get back to break-even levels quickly. For now, though, investors seem satisfied with Clean Energy Fuels' strategy to emphasize rising volume and station expansion.

    One under-$10 health care player that looks poised for a potentially large move higher is Stereotaxis (STXS), which designs, manufactures and markets an advanced cardiology instrument control system for use in a hospital's interventional surgical suite to enhance the treatment of arrhythmias and coronary artery disease. This stock has been on fire so far in 2013, with shares up big by 43%.

    If you take a look at the chart for Stereotaxis, you'll notice that this stock has formed a major bottom pattern over the last three months, since this stock has found buying interest each time it has pulled back towards $3.50 and $3.10 a share. Buyers have stepped in at those levels and have not let the sellers pressure STXS lower. Shares of STXS are now starting to spike higher today right off its 50-day moving average of $3.59 a share. That spike is quickly pushing shares of STXS within range of triggering a big breakout trade above a key downtrend line.

    Traders should now look for long-biased trades in STXS if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance at $4 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 1.98 million shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then STXS will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $5 to $6.24 a share. Any high-volume move above $6.24 a share will then give STXS a chance to re-fill some of its previous gap down zone from August that started at $10 a share.

    Traders can look to buy STXS off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below those key support levels at $3.50 to $3.10 a share. One can also buy STXS off strength once it clears $4 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

All’s Fair in Love and War and Oil

An Iraqi Kurdish crude oil tanker has been seen floating off the coast of Israel after offloading its cargo, ship tracking data has shown.

If true, the transaction would be in open defiance of Baghdad, with whom Israel has no diplomatic or commercial relations. Furthermore, any commercial transaction between an Arab country and Israel violates the ruling of the Arab Boycott Bureau that bans all commercial exchanges with the Jewish state.

But it would not be the first time that Kurdish oil has found its way into the Israeli market.

Iraqi Kurdistan, although autonomous, is still in principle supposed to conduct its oil transactions through Baghdad. Selling into the oil market directly and independently of Baghdad provides the Kurds in northern Iraq with much needed funds. It also helps the Kurds move away from Baghdad and toward independence, which it has made no secret of wanting.

This is something that none of Iraq's neighbors are happy to see, as they each have their own Kurdish minorities who might be tempted to try and follow their Iraqi brethren down the road to independence. Turkey, of course, has a very large problem with its own Kurdish population, as do Syria and Iran, to a lesser degree.

This recent development adds yet another headache to the Iraqi government's list of monumental problems, starting with the loss of a huge chunk of its territory and authority to the Islamic State, which has declared a new Islamic Caliphate created and managed by a self- proclaimed caliph.

At this point in time, it's impossible to identify the Kurdish oil's destination or buyer. A previous delivery of oil from Iraqi Kurdistan occurred last June. While some Arab countries do maintain commercial exchanges with Israel, albeit very discreet ones, officially at least, the Arab world for the most part continues to shun Israel.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has in the past denied selling oil to Israel "directly or indirectly." They have not commented on news reports of the Israeli shipment.

There have also been numerous rumors in the past of a number of transactions between the Kurds and Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several other high-ranking Israeli officials have even publicly expressed support for an independent Kurdistan.

Iraq's central government in Baghdad has repeatedly called independent Kurdish exports "smuggling," saying only state marketer SOMO has the right to sell Iraqi oil. The KRG says the Iraqi constitution allows it to sell oil independently.

Angered by the reported sale of oil to Israel, Baghdad has tried repeatedly to prevent the KRG from selling oil to Israel and has cut the Kurds' budget allotment as punishment. The Kurds have been asking Baghdad to release the funds, which are needed to help in the fight against the Islamic State.

Ship tracking data indicates that the Kamari, the oil tanker in question, switched off its satellite transponder on Aug. 17. Two days later, it reappeared on radar close to the Israeli shore.

More than 7.5 million barrels of Kurdish oil have flowed through the independent pipeline connecting northern Iraq to the Turkish port of Ceyhan.

Turkish officials and industry sources said the capacity of the Kurdish pipeline has been upgraded to 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) and there are plans to increase it to 250,000 bpd soon.

The Iraqi government has already succeeded in stopping one tanker from reaching its destination; the United Leadership has been idling off the coast of Morocco for almost three months.

Top Communications Equipment Companies To Own For 2014

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Back in June I told you that Ciena (CIEN), which at the time was trading at $19.79 per share, was meaningfully undervalued.

It wasn't a popular call. But although carrier spending had not fully rebounded, management still figured out ways to get revenue and free-cash-flow growth.

To that end, given Ciena's industry-leading position in optical telecommunications equipment, I felt there was (at least) 15% upside to be had in the stock regardless of whether the likes of Verizon (VZ) and AT&T (T) decided to spend.

Not to mention that Ciena was coming off consecutive quarters in which the company beat estimates and raised guidance. Since the June article, the stock has soared 22%, including a 52-week high of $24.61. And following yet another beat-and-raise quarter, there's no question that more gains are on the way. On many levels, the Ciena's turnaround is pretty remarkable. With the recent moves made by Alcatel-Lucent (ALU), questions were raised as to whether Ciena, which also competes with bigger rivals like Cisco (CSCO) and Juniper (JNPR), could ever survive the weak carrier-spending environment. [Read: Apple's iPhones Are Built for Collect Calls] Now, with revenue growing 14% year-over year and 19% sequentially, these concerns have been put to rest. Equally impressive, for the second consecutive quarter, Ciena showed tremendous growth in packet networking, which was up 23% year over year and a stunning 104% sequentially. Now, with virtually no one reporting on this performance, it still seems as if the Street is unwilling to give Ciena its proper credit. You can be unimpressed if you like. But let's not forget, that although Cisco did report a strong quarter several weeks ago, Cisco got hammered for issuing softer-than-expected guidance . So truth be told, although I was in the glass-half-full camp in the telecom sector, there were also reasons for caution heading into Ciena's report. Essentially, this performance, which also includes a 8% year-over-year improvement in non-GAAP gross margin, validates what I've been saying about the credibility that Ciena has earned. The fear of Cisco is always a concern, which is what has kept investors at bay.

    Bud Light may still be America's best-selling beer -- it has been for more than a decade -- but retail sales of this and other leading lower-calorie lagers such as Bud Light Lime, Miller Lite, and Natural (aka Natty) Light, declined in 2013, according to data from IRI, a Chicago market research firm. Not that this spells the end of light beers, which still make up a significant chunk of the market. Even as big brewers push into the craft segment, some big-name labels are still experiencing an uptick. Case sales of Coors Light, which became the No. 2 beer brand in the U.S. in 2012, grew nearly 1.8 percent last year, according to IRI. Michelob Ultra Light sales were also up, although it is an outlier in a fast-declining Michelob franchise. "There will always be a place for 'Big Lager' as it's more drinkable in the sense that one can have many lagers but only a few dark beers," says Euromonitor International analyst Edward Hsyeh. "The dark beers are heavy in body, so there can only be so much 'share of the stomach' they possess." Still, big challenges loom: First, Americans' growing thirst for darker, more flavorful brews can't be ignored. Volume sales of lager-a lighter style of beer-have fallen every year since 2009 except 2012, according to Euromonitor's data, though the vast majority of beer consumed in the U.S. is still lager.
