In the world of triple-net REITs, most of the attention in the past week has been on the planned merger of American Capital Realty Properties (ARCP) and Cole Real Estate Investments (COLE). I recently wrote about ARCP, noting that the REIT had seen heavy insider buying over the summer at prices higher than today. I also recommended the stock based on its growth prospects within a sector I love and its high dividend yield — 6.7% at today prices.
ARCP fell on the news on the COLE merger, which is typical for the acquiring firm (as a general rule, the acquirer falls and the acquired rises). But I continue to see value in REITs and ARCP in particular.
Today, however, I want to highlight other insider buying for REITs, namely, in a competitor of ARCP and COLE:Stag Industrial (STAG).
The scale of the insider buying of STAG is considerably smaller than that of ARCP. But its scope is every bit as wide, as six company officers have made purchases in the past quarter. As you can see from STAG insider trading history, the company officers have been steadily and consistently accumulating the shares over the past year.

To quantify the relationship between real gold prices and real yields, we can regress the price of gold from 2006 to 2013 (we used the logarithm of the real price of gold in our model) against the 10-year real yield from the Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) market. (In our view, this regression is appropriate since gold and real yields are co-integrated and there is an economic rationale for believing they should be.) Based on our study, the regression shows that, all else equal, a 100-basis-point (bp) increase in 10-year real yields has historically led to a decline of 26.8% in the inflation-adjusted price of gold. In other words, over the past seven years gold has had a real duration of 26.8 years. (Note that this is solely an empirical duration that describes the way that gold has traded. Since gold has no cash flows, its duration does not need to be constant, and there is nothing magic about the 26.8 number. Just as the correlation between stocks and bonds varies over time depending on changes in macroeconomic variables and investor risk appetite, the real duration of gold may also change in the future.)

Watch out for DuPont (NYSE: DD ) and Syngenta (NYSE: SYT ) , which will release quarterly numbers later this month. DuPont recently lowered its second-quarter earnings guidance, but that's because of the delayed planting and has nothing to do with GMOs. In fact, its engineered seeds are selling well, as evidenced by the 14% year-over-year jump in its first-quarter sales from the agriculture business. If the companies report good seed sales in their upcoming results, it might as well confirm the growth of the GMO story.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Dan Caplinger]
The first thing to realize about StoneMor is that arcane and flexible accounting rules make it important to dig beneath its GAAP earnings. Growth throughout the industry has been substantial, as up-and-coming Carriage Services (NYSE: CSV ) continued to stay on pace for double-digit sales growth as it rapidly expands its reach. Even well-established player Matthews International (NASDAQ: MATW ) managed to grow revenue by nearly 14% in the quarter that ended in March, although its earnings fell slightly from the year-ago quarter. Still, StoneMor's sales haven't been able to rise as quickly as its peers, with its previous report including just a 6% gain in revenue.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Holly LaFon]
HL: And youe held Nestle (NSRGY) for a long time.
TR: I first bought Nestle in 1987, and it was at that time it was very difficult to buy, and it probably compounded at close to 15% every year since then, total return. And it partly because it was so unloved at the start that the returns have been so strong. But Ie held it for 30 years, and it grown in large measure because of that capacity to reinvest, and we have this beautiful portfolio of brands. And they have the capacity to suffer. So for example they had global leadership in coffee, in Nescafe. On top of that they identified the single-serve coffee business as very on-trend because of the increasing number of people who live alone and who also want to have choice and variety. So it no longer enough to brew a pot of Maxwell House for 10 people because you have a big family. Youe living alone you want to have variety, you want to have just enough so you don waste. Single serve plays a big role in that. And they were willing to invest so heavily behind the development of Nespresso that they didn break even for 15 years. So I admired them. They have great domain expertise in coffee. And they have the capacity to suffer, through 15 years of not breaking even, to perfect the product so that by the time it came out it was a true winner. And so with that careful background, today the business does close to $5 billion. And it a very solid important franchise. That culture, of being able to take your domain expertise and move from one product to the next and then invest behind it to try to get it right, without rushing to try to show early profits, is at the heart of what Ie learned from these businesses that do it right, as things required to have permanent excellence.

The European Central Bank could make an important decision soon. Pricing data in the European Union has been coming in weak, hitting the lowest level in more than four years. This adds pressure to ECB President Mario Draghi, who might start looking for ways to counter the deflationary threat in the region. What can he do? Two things: cut interest rates and/or start a round of quantitative easing to boost activity levels and push prices up. During last week's monthly meeting, the ECB left its policies unchanged, but calls for action are mounting, and Draghi says measures including asset purchases are on the table.
With the U.S. Federal Reserve winding down its quantitative-easing program and the Japanese central bank finishing its strong QE of 2013, it might be Europe's turn to try a more aggressive policy to drive its economy. After all, the austerity measures designed to curtail the unsustainable deficit spending kept demand soft in the region and did not solve its problems.
How could this impact European assets?
Normally, a drop in interest rates and expansive monetary policies are positive for capital markets. In Japan, for example, the Nikkei grew more than 60% last year, while the U.S.' S&P 500 gained 28%.
For a closer look at how Europe is doing, consider the best-known broad European index ETF, Vanguard European Stock Index (NYSEMKT: VGK ) . This fund invests in large- and mid-cap stocks based in 17 developed European markets, representing most of the investable market. Many of the fund's largest holdings are quality multinational names such as Nestle (NASDAQOTH: NSRGY ) , Royal Dutch Shell, Roche, and HSBC (NYSE: HSBC ) . But if you consider weight by country, the U.K. comes first with 33%, followed by Switzerland with 14% and France with 14%.

A huge net-net like Ingram Micro (IM) with nine out of ten years of profits in the last decade is pretty unusual. And Ingram operates on a razor-thin margin. It usually makes about one cent in profit for every dollar of sales.

My take is that Qualcomm has rapidly established itself as the de facto standard for connecting with medical devices. The company isn't doing it alone, though. It teamed with Ingram Micro (NYSE: IM ) , the world's largest technology distributor, to support the implementation, logistics, and financial services related to the 2net hub and platform. This partnership should help propagate Qualcomm's technology more effectively than the company could have done on its own.
